What should you not do if someone is having a seizure?

Do not try to stop the seizure or restrain the resident

When someone is having a seizure, the priority is safety and keeping the airway clear while the brain activity runs its course. Do not try to stop the seizure or restrain the person. Trying to hold them still can cause injuries to both of you and may interfere with breathing. Instead, move nearby hazards away, gently guide them to a safer area if possible, and cushion the head with something soft to protect it. Loosen tight clothing around the neck, and do not place anything in the mouth. Once the seizure ends, turn the person onto their side in the recovery position to keep the airway open and reduce the risk of choking. Stay with them until they are fully awake and alert.
